On Saturday, Aug. 29, varsity volleyball traveled to Plymouth High School for the annual varsity tournament. The girls finished in second place overall.

“Going in, we knew we had to take care of business from the beginning because there are always some tough teams in this tournament. We thought we played pretty well,” Jacqueline Eader (12) said.

The girls easily defeated Muncie Burris with the scores 25-15, 25-10. The next two games against Southwood and Plymouth High Schools were also an easy win for our ladies.

“This group has great leadership, they love the sport. They played with a lot of relentless heart,” Coach Tina Tinberg, said.

The last match was against Valparaiso, and the girls took a tough lost the first set with scores 25-11. The girls really lit up the court with the second set, fighting for every last point. The final scores of the last set were 25-17.

“I felt that we didn’t play our best [against Valparaiso] we were all tired from our long week of games and practices. All of it caught up to us, making us not play like we know how to,” Stephanie Spigolon (12) said.

Stephanie Spigolon, Samantha Anderson (12) and Victoria Gardenhire (12) were all awarded the “Player of the Tournament” award at Plymouth this past weekend.

“I felt honored, and good about myself. It’s a good feeling to get player of the tournament,” Spigolon said.

The season is kicking into full gear, and our lady Indians are preparing for a great end of the season.

“I am pleased with the season so far, they are a very determined group, and they are continuing to get better every day with our ball control and our defense. I think when we are in system, we have a lot of offensive weapons,” Coach Tinberg said.
