The N-Teens swarmed the Habitat for Humanity on November 2 as an effort to help the needy.
The N-Teens volunteer in Gary every first and last Wednesday of each month. With plenty of opportunities to help, students are given the chance to look into the lives of the less fortunate.
“People who do not have the money to buy regular stuff in stores come and buy things at a cheaper price,” Christina Castillo (11) said.
Students help by doing such tasks as sweeping, vacuuming, organizing things and pricing items. N-Teen members sacrifice their time to lend a hand and come out of the Habitat of Humanity with a sense of accomplishment.
“Helping out at the Habitat for Humanity made me want to do more volunteering. It makes me feel good, and it makes me want to go out to find other places I can help out at,” Castillo said.
The N-Teens meet every Tuesday, and the club is open throughout the year to anyone who would like to join. Members have to be 16 or older to volunteer at the Habitat for Humanity.
“I definitely feel like more people should come out and help. It’s nothing hard at all, and when you’re done, you just feel good about yourself,” Castillo said.
