Mrs. Cyndi Hurley, Business, has initiated the Deploy the Dress fundraiser at Lake Central.
“I saw it on Facebook, as did Ms. [Terri] Budlove, [Business] about this organization for soldier’s families that soldiers have to go to all these formal events and often times, they don’t have the resources to supply the female members of their family with the proper clothing,” Mrs. Hurley said.
There are different items that students can donate. These donations will be given to family members of the soldiers.
“We’re collecting used dresses, formal and semi-formal, shoes, accessories, and bags,” Mrs. Hurley said.
Students and staff can drop off their donations in room C225 where Mrs. Hurley and her students will prepare the boxes for shipping.
“I want to ship [the contributions] to an army base in Texas where this all started, and then [that army base will] disperse them to other army bases that have this need, too. [Deploy the Dress] is the only organization like this right now,” Hurley said.
Although Mrs. Hurley got the ball rolling for this project, she gives a lot of credit to her students.
“My Fashion Merchandising students are doing all the leg work. My students are pretty much running it, with me just supervising,” Mrs. Hurley said.
Donations will be collected today through Wednesday, Feb. 10.
