Claire Gronek (10), Lauren Gronek (11), Anna Wachowski (11) and Colleen Quinn (12) gather in a circle to pray before the matches began. A few players do this tradition before every match to lift up their spirits.

The varsity girls tennis team faced off the Crown Point Bulldogs on April 28 and lost with a team score of 3-2. The girls may not have won, but they did get close to the goal they set and are eager to face the Bulldogs again in Sectionals.

I think it was a very hard fight and we definitely didn’t give up, but luckily we get to play them again in sectionals in a couple weeks. We’re definitely hoping that we’ll come in very strong and we’ll win sectionals and we’ll beat them,” Anna Wachowski (11) said.

The team’s last tournament before Sectionals is the Merrillville varsity tennis tournament. It will be held April 30 at Merrillville High School, beginning at 9 a.m. Sectionals will then be held at Crown Point May 18 through May 20.
