Best Buddies prom was held on May 15 in the cafeteria. The DJ traveled from Indianapolis, food was served and memories were made.
“Highlight of my life is when we get together and take pictures and it is so fun. I love best buddies. I am so thankful for the Best Buddy teachers and peers for helping us put this together,” Sandra Nguyen (11) said.
When the students walked in, there was a photo booth set up, balloons all around, food ready to be served and music playing. Parents were welcome to enjoy the special night. Members of the club danced with their buddies and with the DJ.
“My favorite part has been being with my friends and all the dancing with people I can actually talk to and interact with, I love the music too,” Olivia Longo (10) said.
Best Buddies is a club where students do activities in and outside of school. The goal of this club is to improve communication skills, form meaningful friendships and work toward living an independent life with students who are often isolated.
“This year I have taken my buddy to the pumpkin patch a few times, we went to the movies a few times, and even when we come to the club meeting we play games and there are always a lot of fun things to do. My favorite part is getting to go out with Liv because she is such a sweet girl,” Peyton Buikema (10).
