On Saturday, March 10, the Lake Central Robotics Club travelled to Crawfordsville, Ind. for the First Technology Challenge Indiana State Championship. Due to connection and mechanical issues, the team placed 17th in the Qualifying Rounds. Thanks to their alliance partner, fourth-ranked “Mechahamsters,” from Martinsville, Ind., the LC Robotics team advanced to the Semi-Finals. After a very close match with the first-place team “Raptor Robotics,” from Elkhart, Ind., the boys lost by 25 points.
The LC Robotics team had an unfortunate disadvantage compared to the other teams. This was its first year together, and the other teams had about three extra months together to prepare.
“I think that we performed wonderfully, and we are truly proud that we had the opportunity to advance to the Semi-Finals of a six-state finalist competiton,” Jeromy Rech (12) said.
The team is currently beginning to prepare for next year. At the moment, the majority of the team consists of seniors.
“We need to find, teach and hand off the torch to some underclassmen to carry on this amazing team,” said Rech.
