On Saturday afternoon, Dec. 5, the Girls JV Basketball team took on the LaPorte Slicers in hopes of a victory. With a final score of 31-20, the girls brought home the win.
¨We were breaking La Porte’s press fairly easily, and got back on offensive fast. Coach Jeanette Gray, Mathematics, encouraged us to get more points and to [keep] playing hard as a team,¨ Sarah Cunningham (10) said.
At halftime, the team talked about strategies to keep their eight point lead. They fought hard throughout the whole game, leading 18-10 at halftime.
¨Coach trusts me a lot with the ball for a freshman [and] it makes me feel more confident with that type of responsibility. [We’re] handling the pressure well by limiting turnovers and pushing the ball forward,¨ Essence Johnson (9) explains.
It was a tough game but the girls held the lead for the majority of the game. The game finally ended with a final score 31-20. The girls worked together on passing and shooting and focused on accomplishing their goal.
“In practice we watched film of Laporte play. This helped us know there offensive plays and showed us how to guard them. As a team we were told to play harder, play smarter, and play tougher,” Sarah Cunningham (10) said.
