The Varsity Girls Volleyball team defeated Munster on Tuesday in the fourth game with a score of 25-22. They hadn’t beaten Munster in four years, so the win was something to be proud of.
The team was scheduled to play a total of five sets; however, Lake Central managed to beat Munster within only four. The girls lost the first set, but came back to win the next three. 22-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-17.
“We did pretty good. In the first game we didn’t come out strong, but in the next three we came back from some of their good leads,” Katherine Stepanian (11) said.
Victoria Gardenhire (9), the only freshman on the varsity team, had seven aces and a hitting percentage of .354.
“I was really excited. Since I’m the only freshman it’s a lot of pressure. I was nervous; I thought I wasn’t going to do good. You just have to push through it,” Gardenhire said.
Coach Tina Tinberg was very happy with the win.
“I give them a lot of credit. I’m so proud; they gave me 200%. They were relentless on defense and explosive on offense,” Tinberg said.
