On Thursday, Oct. 4, the freshman football team defeated Chesterton with a final score of 36-14. Despite poor weather conditions, the Indians kept a lead over the Trojans the entire game.
Foreshadowing a good game for the Indians, Khalid Yacoub (9) recovered a fumble at the beginning of the first quarter and scored a touchdown, leaving crowds, coaches and teammates cheering.
“I just picked it up, and ran with it,” Yacoub said.
At about halftime, clouds covered the field with a downpour, but it didn’t affect the Indians, who were ahead 29-14.
Another contributor to the win on Thursday’s game was Sean Griffin (9), who made many major plays.
Coach Scott Freckelton said the team played well but has some things to work on.
“They need to concentrate on responsibility. Physically they’re there, but mentally they need some work” Freckelton said.
The next Freshman football game will be at home this Saturday, Oct. 13 at 9 AM against Crown Point.
