After years of juggling the military, LC and his family, Mr. Sean Begley, Freshmen Center Principal, will assume command of the 113th Engineer Battalion in the Indiana Army National Guard.
Begley will officially become the battalion commander on Oct. 14 at 10 a.m. in the Lake Central Fieldhouse. Brigadier General Michael Osbourne will turn the command from Lieutenant Colonel Steven Hines to Major Begley.
“I certainly have big shoes to fill with LTC Hines. He has set the bar high for this unit and I will do my best to keep going in the same direction. LTC Hines has been a great mentor to me as well as all the Soldiers in the battalion,” Mr. Begley said.
The battalion consists of six engineer companies throughout Indiana that hold over 600 soldiers within their ranks. Since 1917, the battalion has served in World War I, World War II, Operation Iraqi freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
“It is very exciting to take charge of the 113th Engineer Battalion. I was able to deploy with this battalion in 2005 to Iraq as a company commander. The dedication to duty, expertise, bravery, and professionalism of this unit is outstanding. It is quite humbling to be named its commander, I really think the accomplishments of this unit are extraordinary and that it is one of the best Engineer units in the Army,” Mr. Begley said.
With this job, Begley will remain at Lake Central as Freshmen Center Principal.
