The Varsity Football team faced off against Providence Catholic on Aug. 25th. The Indians played hard, but unfortunately lost the game 21-28, being only their second year playing Providence.
“I feel as if it was a really hard fought game and after the win against Munster, we were still trying to figure out who we are. I think we figured it out enough to where we know we all will fight for eachother and hold each other accountable when we mess up or make a bad play we pick each other up. Just like Coach Good usually says, have a short memory and do better on the next rep or play just don’t make the same mistake twice,” Christopher Gavin said.
During the game, Gavin managed to push past the defense and tackle the quarterback, making Providence lose yard. The game started out with the opponents getting ahead in the first quarter, but the Indians received the kick off and ran all the way to the endzone getting a touchdown which made the score 7-7 with less than five minutes left in the first quarter.
“I feel like we have had very good practices this year. The only thing we could improve on would be to have better focus throughout the whole practice, which would lead to smoother and more effective practices. My goal this season is to improve the team in any way I can, since football is a team sport, not an individual sport. In football, you have to learn not to be selfish and do whatever it takes to help your team,” Cameron Reddick (10) said.
Learning to not be selfish helps Reddick to perform better, so he can improve playing as a team and increase their chances of winning. The next games the Varsity team battles against is Portage on Sept.1st and Crown Point on Sept. 8th.
“I would say my grandma motivates me. She always believed I could do anything I put my mind to so I never stopped believing. Some goals I have for this season are winning against Crown Point and having a winning record in the dac. I play outside linebacker, I really love the position because I like rushing off of the edge and the position is basically a defensive end when I’m on the line of scrimmage to help in the run fit,” Gavin said.
