On a chilly Thursday evening, the freshman football team faced off against the Valparaiso Vikings. This was the last game of their season and they played their hearts out, which was the best that they could do. Before the game, the team worked their absolute hardest to make sure that they were in the best shape to show up and play against the Vikings.
“I started practicing and warming up early and other things like that, so I think I did take advantage of my practice time,” Jacob Turley (9) said.
After many vigorous hours of practice, the team finally got to the field for game time. The boys worked hard individually, but they needed to work together as a team in order for them to win.
“I think my personal performance was decent, but I mean, it’s eleven people and I’m only one person,” Turley said.
The pressure of the final game got to them and they didn’t perform as well as they expected to.
“I personally think I played decently, not too good and not too bad, but I know I could’ve done better,” Hamza Issa (9) said.
During the game, they crumbled under the strength of the other team losing 33-0.
“I think we started off good, but once the other team scored once or twice we just got knocked down and it didn’t work out for us,” Turley said.
In hindsight, the boys recognized and acknowledged that they could’ve done better and will prepare to avenge this loss next season by improving their skills.
“I feel like I could have blocked better for the run plays and caught more of my targets,” Issa said.
