The junior class cabinet held their 2023-2024 officer elections on October 26. To determine who would hold each position, candidates gave a short speech about there fellow peers should vote for them. “I was a little bit nervous [about elections] beforehand because I was running against two really qualified girls, but I was like really happy when I won and I feel like this years going to be really good,” Ophelia Thomas (11) said.
After all the candidates gave their speeches the remaining members of the club were able to cast their votes to the person they thought would be the best fit for president, vice president and social media.
“I think it really helps kind of aid school spirit. It is also a really good way to get involved in the school community. It’s just really fun. I enjoy it a lot,” Kaylee Phillips (11) said.
Phillips explains the importance of the junior class cabinet. This explanation contributes to the qualities the members looked for in the candidates when voting.
“I think class cabinet is a great way to get students more involved in things at the school and to be a better member of our community,” Thomas said.
Thomas, the newly elected president of the junior class cabinet, shared her plans for the future of the club and the school.
“This year I think we’re definitely going to do another nice teacher appreciation like a gift for all the teachers, we’re of course planning prom and I really want to do a sort of community service activity. Last year we did like a donation drive. It didn’t exactly go the way we wanted it to, so I think we can do something even better this year,” Thomas said.
