Astronomical Society Gazes at the Universe

For the past 30 years the Calumet Astronomical Society has been meeting on the second Monday of every month. The latest meeting was on Aug. 8 at Lake Central High School where they have been meeting for the past two years.
The night focused on their guest speaker’s, Kim Dupczak, speech about alternative ways to view the universe. Aside from their monthly meetings and trips to the Lowell observatory, the group focuses on teaching students about the stars.
“We call it educational outreach. [The club] goes to schools around the area to teach students astronomy,” Mr. Mike Heaney, president of CAS, said.
Heaney also emphasized the importance of spreading information about the club and astronomy to the public. For more information about the Calumet Astronomical Society visit their website at www.casonline.org or call (773) 639 – 5491.
