The Lake Central girls track team won their fifth Regional title on Tuesday, May 21 at Chesterton High School.
This win makes it the team’s third consecutive regional title.
“It’s a great feeling to be part of such an amazing team. With this year’s team, I think we can make a big statement at State,” Parriss-Yonny Bettis (11) said.
The team won the meet with 85 points over second place, Merrillville, with 68 points.
Brooke Lambert (11) vaulted 12-3, which broke the meet record and the school record. Lambert, Kaitlyn Moricz (12) and Katelyn Brown (12) placed 1-2-3 in the pole vault and set Indiana history by sending three girls to state in pole vault.
“The pole vaulters are really something else. This is their year, and they aren’t letting anyone stop that,” Bettiss said.
The team advanced eight girls: Bettiss, Moricz, Brown, Megan Zajac (10), Alexandra Widowfield (11), Renee DiNino (9), Alexandria Tyler (9) and Brooke Lambert (11).
State will be held in Bloomington on June 1.
