The Lake Central girls track team competed eight girls at State on June 1 in Bloomington, with high hopes of making a statement at the top level.
“It was an amazing experience even though I didn’t do as well as I would have liked. It was great to be with my teammates who I’ve gotten extremely close with this season,” Parriss Bettis (12) said.
The pole vaulting trio of Brooke Lambert (12), Katelyn Brown (’13), and Kaitlyn Moricz (’13), also the first trio to advance to State, had two girls place. Brown placed sixth with a height of 11-6, and Moricz placed fourth with a height of 12.
“Being able to experience state together with my girls was amazing. We’ve grown so much together, and it was awesome just seeing how far we were able to go,” Lambert said.
Megan Zajac (11) placed 13th with a time of 59.37 in the 400-meter dash. The 4×400 relay team of Zajac, Renee Dinino (10), Alexandra Widowfield (12), and Alexandria Tyler (10) placed 21st with a time of 4:04.
“As a senior, I went down to state to just have fun, and that’s what I did. Some things did not go as planned, but it was a great day,” Moricz said.
The team placed 23rd overall to finish off the season at State.
