Senior swimmers say goodbye

On January 23, Lake Central hosted a varsity swim meet against Munster High School. Not only did LC host a rival swim meet, but also celebrated a very heart-felt Senior Night.

Although both LC teams suffered a tough loss with a final score of girls: 126-60 and boys: 108-64, the night was a valuable experience and very sentimental for the seniors.

“Going into the meet I was excited because it was our last meet, I was excited for the seniors because it was the last meet of their careers at home, and I was really excited just to have Munster at the new pool and host the meet in the new facility,” Coach Todd Smolinski said.

Even though both teams lost, the night still seemed more positive than negative.

“The freshmen got introduced to the rival between Lake Central and Munster swimming that goes back to the 1970s. The seniors gave some pep talks before to get everyone fired up. I think they enjoyed it and they enjoyed the night. We got a little bit nostalgic about all the years passed,” Coach Smolinski said.

The meet was not all tears, however.

“Overall, as a team [the boys], I think we had a pretty successful meet. We had a lot of guys swim their best times against Munster,” Joshua Barajas (11) said.

The night was a very sentimental one, but the Lake Central swim team kept high spirits and celebrated the seniors and records.
