Boys Bowling Captures Conference Title in Epic Battle to the End

Going into Monday’s match, the LC Varsity Boys Bowling team knew they needed to beat Crown Point to take the Westlake Conference Title for the second consecutive year.

“[Coach Gregg Schmied] told us just to go out there and bowl, to have fun, not to worry about it,” Colin Young (11) said.

They did just that. In 10 Baker games (five bowlers per game), the Boys fought hard and took 6 of the 10 games in the final match of the season.

“I was really excited. I didn’t think we’d beat Crown Point, but we knew we were conference champions by the end of the sixth game,” Young said.

The final standings for the season left the Boys ahead of Crown Point by 15.5 points and with a record of 14-2.

“I think [winning conference] is awesome. I’m really happy [with] my freshman year,” Andrew Schmied (9) said.

After this performance, the Boys hope they can perform this well again on Sunday for Sectionals.

“It seemed like we had the best chemistry. We had never bowled that well until Monday,” Young said.

The Boys plan on demonstrating their skills and chemistry in the kickoff of the postseason on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 1 p.m. at Stardust Bowl II in Merrillville, Ind.
