On May 18, the boys JV baseball team faced off with Illiana Christian High School, who they quickly overtook with a final run count of 5-2. The team, however, was not surprised with the outcome of the game.
“We were expecting a win. We came out here to play some Lake Central baseball, to score some runs and to keep them at zero,” David Griffin (10) said.
Even though they hastily took the win, the boys know that there is always room for improvement.
“I think that I could have definitely done better, but we got the win so I’m happy about that,” Cade Smith (10) said.
As senior night approaches, the teammates reminisce on memories that they have made with one another and the varsity players. They also anticipate the opening of varsity positions as they battle for them.
“It’s going to be sad to see them going but it’s also going to be fun to try and fulfill their footsteps and to do what they do because they’re a great team,” Jake Dykstra (10) said.
The boys’ season is coming to a conclusion much sooner than they had predicted. The memories that they made this year will last a lifetime, but new ones will be made with the advent of the 2018 season.
“It’s pretty upsetting that the season is coming to an end, but there’s always next year,” Smith said.
