Staying Strong

Fighting hard until the end, the girls JV soccer team played a home game against Munster on Thursday, August 31, 2023. Munster scored the first point of the game, but Lake Central caught up until the score evened out 2-2. Gabby Rossi-Powers (10) scored the first point, and Kristina Celeski (9) scored the second. It was a long struggle after Lake Central tied the score. Unfortunately, Munster scored again and won the match 3-2.

“I scored the first goal of the game and I think that it was awesome. I would have never been able to do it without the assistance from Phoebe Fogarty (10) because we work so well together on the field,” said Rossi-Powers.

Each point builds morale in the team and pushes them to fight persistently. Another way the team assembled their confidence was by practicing harder on their offense.

“I think the highlight of the game was our team working the ball up and finishing. We have been working a lot on our attack and it was great to see that in the game,” said Coach Olsen.

While they had refined their attacking skills, they struggled to harmonize. The team spent a long time pushing for control of the ball.

“If I could play the game again I would have tried to lead more because I feel I don’t talk on the field as much as I should,” said Rossi-Powers.

Coach Olsen also noticed the infrequent talking during the game. The girls have an upcoming match on September 7. They can reflect on this past game and improve from it, regardless of the loss.

“As a team, I thought we played well, but I do think we can communicate better on the field,” Coach Olsen said.
