The boys and girls cross country team pushes past the other teams at New Prairie High School. The regional meet was held on Oct. 21st where both teams placed fourth and headed to Terre Haute for state.
“[For state] I expect the team to go out and give it their all and end the season off on a good note,” Dominic Negrete (11) said.
Even as a top alternate for the boys team, Negrete expects his team to push their all and end the season at a good placement. As of right now, the boys team is ranked 18th and the girls are 14th out of all the teams in Indiana.
“After this year, [I am going to miss] everything with all the seniors a lot. I love all of the seniors very much,” Essay Gonzalez (11) said.
While the season is ending for both teams, Gonzalez is going to look back on all the memories that she made during the season for motivation to run in the future. The top finisher in the meet this saturday was Benjamin Perschon (9) in the boys race placing 17th out of 245 athletes, earning a medal for top 20 while Riley Petrovich (12) barely missed top 30 by three places. In the girls race, Addison Roth (12) was able to place fifth while Nicole Vollrath (12) made it in the top 30 out of 239 runners.
“The best part of making it to state is getting to spend more time with the team and getting to travel around. Plus experience the perks that come with making it to state. I would have given more of a kick at the finish of the Highland invitational meet. I’m glad I got my PR of 17:04, but I feel I could have given more at the end,” Negrete said.
