The Lady Indians varsity squad concluded their regular season with emphasis, defeating DAC rival Portage at home last Thursday night, Jan. 24, by a score of 59-55.

“We knew that if we kept with it and did all the little things right, we would get a good end result,” Gina Rubino (10) said.

The Tribe faced a hellacious Portage press all night. Though the crimson-clad defenders appeared to be moving at lightning speed, the home team kept their composure.

“It didn’t surprise me. They mix up defenses a lot. They run a 1-2-2, a 2-2-1,” Coach Marc Urban, Physical Education, said.

The last time these two teams squared off, Portage took home a 46-36 W. The girls were proud to exact revenge on their enemies this time around.

“This was a big game for us and a great win,” Tara Zlotkowski (10) said.

The Lady Indians concluded Coach Urban’s inaugural regular season with a 13-7 record (10-4 DAC). They will kick off their postseason campaign against the Gary West Side Cougars on Wednesday in Munster.
