Kristina Dombovic (12) practices her headstand that is in the varsity hip hop dance routine during Centralettes practice at M2 Dance Center. The headstand was not the only trick that was put into the varsity hip hop dance this year to increase the difficulty of the dance and to increase their chances of placing first at nationals.

The Lake Central Centralettes will be competing at the NDA National Championship that will take place at Universal Studios in Florida this weekend March 9-10.

“Our team is very prepared for Nationals because we have been practicing for this competition all season,” Kristina Dombovic (12), captain of the varsity team said.

The Lake Central Centralettes have seven NDA national titles, and for the past three consecutive years, the team has been first in the nation in the Large Varsity Jazz category.

“Coming back to NDA as defending national champions in Large Varsity Jazz is very nerve- racking. We know that other teams are out to beat us, and the judges expect a good performance from us,” Dombovic said.

Although the pressure is on to dominate at Nationals once again this year, the team is excited and prepared for the competition.

“Every practice we have we put ourselves in the mindset of Nationals and imagine that we are performing on the national stage so we are prepared when we actually do. I think that since we have done this often this year we are more prepared than ever before,” said Dombovic.

The team hopes to bring home a fourth consecutive national title in the Large Varsity Jazz category.

“We finally get to show everyone what we are made of,” Tari Markowski (11) said.
